'George Always' Portraits of George Melly by Maggi Hambling
George Melly Singing by Maggi Hambling
This major exhibition of Maggi Hambling's portraits of her friend George Melly, painted after his death, will be at the National Portrait Gallery, London, until 10th January. The NPG shop will display for sale the silk-screen print 'George Melly singing', published by IAP Fine Art, and launched by George Melly shortly before his death. A colour catalogue accompanies the exhibition.
Museum show success
Maggi Hambling's exhibition 'George Always', portraits of George Melly, was very successful at the Walker Art Gallery (26 Feb - 31 May 2009), and selected works from it have now transferred to the National Portrait Gallery, London.

Maggi Hambling
Maggi Hambling has made a film for the BBC's 'Made In England' project. It's part of the Video Nation series and it records, diary-style, her relationship with the North Sea in Suffolk looking at her paintings and Scallop at Aldeburgh. Hambling worked with BBC Suffolk producer Andrew Woodger to make the film and you can watch it here.
