Maggi Hambling is represented by Marlborough Fine Art, London. Marlborough holds a large body of recent work. (See Marlborough Fine Art website for details).
Maggihambling.com is managed by IAP Fine Art and sells the artist's prints (often raising funds for charity) and selected paintings, and is also designed to occasionally resell works by the artist. Some of the works therefore come from private collections. There are two main advantages to a collector wishing to resell a Hambling via this website. Firstly, maggihambling.com only takes a 12% commission on works below £3,000, and a 9% commission on works from £3,000 to £60,000. Less than the average commission via a major auction house. Secondly, the work is permanently viewable online to web visitors worldwide.
The advantage to the artist is that maggihambling.com gives 50% of the resale commission to the artist (ie. half the 12% or 9% resale commission). Auction houses and sellers in Europe are only obliged by the new droit de suite law to give the minimum 4% commission to the artist. Therefore the artist receives an extra 2% (for works under £3,000) or 0.5%(above £3,000) from works resold via this website.
